Career Build Spotlight: Loegan Weigert

Loegan Weigert

I am a junior at Eagle Point High School and work with Erica from College Dreams*. I have been working on mechanical projects and welding with my stepfather since middle school and am interested in underwater welding as a career path. I was looking for work experience beyond fast food and wanted actual welding experience in the real world not just the shop at school.

Erica connected me with Tobin at the Career Build Program. He helped me get an internship at Pro-Weld in White City. At first, I was just learning the shop and now they have me welding with some the actual employees, taking measurements and going on field jobs. I work about 15 hours a week at Pro-Weld and kept my other job at Jack in the Box on top of school. Erica is helping me stay on track in school while I work. She holds me accountable and makes sure I am staying in school. I am taking a lot more classes and actually showing a lot more effort at school. I love it at Pro-Weld. They treat me like a real employee and it’s a great environment to be in. I’ve also began to think about work options other than just underwater welding, like iron work - where I can do multiple jobs.
