Career Build

Helping youth explore career pathways, build real-world skills, and gain valuable experience through paid internships and hands-on learning opportunities.

Full details

Career Build exists to deliver workforce exploration and development services to youth ages 16–24 who are facing barriers to education, employment, and training. The program helps youth explore career pathways, gain occupational training, and prepare for meaningful employment through career preparation, paid internships, skills training, and community connections that remove barriers to success.

Career Build strives to offer some kind of skill-building activity to most interested youth, with occupational skill training, workshops, healthcare and tech explorer cohorts, a summer forestry crew, and individual work experiences available, motivated PY+ students have many options to grow their aptitude, experience, and skills. Through braided local, state, and federal funds, Project Youth+ covers the full cost of paid internships with local employers in regionally in-demand industries such as technology, healthcare, natural resources, and early childhood education, opportunities and industry focus shift based on funding availability. Because the partnership is no-cost, more employers are able to host youth and offer valuable experience across a diverse range of industries.

Students are referred by their PY+ Advisor. After a priority period for PY+ participants, some opportunities open to the public, interested youth can apply for trainings and internships through the link below, and many opportunities are also posted on PY+ social media pages. Through leveraged partnerships and workforce investment dollars, PY+ can hold payroll and liability, offering paid internships to youth in a variety of fields and high-demand sectors for local employers.

Who it's for

PY+ participants ages 16–24 facing barriers to education, employment, or training who want hands-on skills, not just a classroom. Career Build offers occupational training, workshops, healthcare and tech explorer cohorts, a summer forestry crew, and individual paid work experiences.

How it works

Project Youth+ braids local, state, and federal funds to cover payroll and liability for every youth intern, so hosting an intern costs the employer nothing. That’s how we place paid internships across in-demand fields like technology, healthcare, natural resources, and early childhood education.

Getting started

Ask your PY+ Advisor for a referral. After a priority window for current PY+ participants, some trainings and internships open to the public, watch PY+ social media for postings.

Brady Robinson

Career Build

Brady Robinson, a Career Build participant at Project Youth+

When Brady joined the PY+ Career Build program, he had strong motivation but limited work experience. Through a partnership with Crater High School, PY+ placed him in a paid internship with the City of Central Point Parks and Recreation Department.

After two successful summers learning alongside city staff, Brady was hired as a city employee.

Brady shares that without Career Build, he would not have had access to the opportunity he now enjoys in a position he loves. The program provided him with real-world skills, professional connections, and a clear pathway toward career advancement.
