+Accounts

Build savings and financial skills while working toward education, career, transportation, and emergency goals.

Full details

The +Accounts program supports youth in Josephine, Jackson, and Southern Douglas Counties with a $5-to-$1 matched savings opportunity. Participants gain financial education, build money-management skills, and work toward personal savings goals. Eligible youth can save up to $2,000 and receive a match of up to $10,000 for education, training, and transportation, building the assets they need for lasting stability.

Students are referred to +Accounts by their PY+ Advisor after at least six months of program participation. Applicants must complete a financial literacy class and meet income and asset eligibility requirements through an application review.

Who it's for

The +Accounts Program is for PY+ participants who are working toward greater financial stability and have a specific savings goal that will support their education, employment, or financial well-being. Eligible participants may save toward education and training, a vehicle, or emergency savings and can receive matched funds to help them reach their goal. Participants must meet the program’s eligibility requirements, complete financial education and have been actively enrolled in either our WIT or C+ for a minimum of six months.

How it works

Participants save toward an approved education, training, or transportation goal, and every $1 they save earns $5 in matching funds. Participants can save up to $2,000 of their own money and earn up to $10,000 in matching funds. While in the program students complete financial literacy education and develop practical money-management skills to support their financial goals well beyond the IDA program.

Getting started

Talk with your PY+ Advisor to learn more about the +Accounts Program and see if it may be a good fit for your goals. Students must have been actively involved in a PY+ program for at least six months before applying. Once your PY+ Advisor refers you to apply, you’ll complete the required financial literacy education and submit an application. The application process will determine whether you meet the program’s income and asset eligibility requirements.

Valeria Gonzalez, a +Accounts graduate of Project Youth+

Through the support of Project Youth+ and the IDA program, Valeria was able to stay on track and graduate within four years by covering summer tuition not funded by her Pell Grant. She also purchased essential technology including a laptop and iPad, tools that were critical during remote learning.

Beyond financial assistance, Valeria gained lifelong skills in saving and investing, along with consistent encouragement from Advisors who believed in her success.

Today, Valeria holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oregon in Family and Human Services, Spanish, and Global Health, and is pursuing her Master of Public Health at UCLA, focusing on prevention efforts in underserved communities.

Valeria’s journey reflects the power of investing in young people with the tools, confidence, and support they need to thrive.
